The Central Mosque of Charleston (CMC) is actively looking to hire a full-time Imam.
Position Description & Responsibilities :
The CMC is seeking to hire a motivated Imam that will perform routine tasks which include the following: leading prayers (daily, Jumu’ah, Eid), giving Jumu’ah khutbah, establishing and maintaining programs for Youth, Sisters, Dawah, Outreach, Community Development, Quran memorization, Counseling, new-Muslim guidance and Education, and other Imam duties.
Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
- Must have “Ijazah” of Qur’an recitation and mastery of Tajwid rules.
- Moderate in Islamic thoughts and not restricted to one sect or one specific school of Fiqh.
- Must have previous experience working in Western Countries specially, USA or Canada.
- Must have a valid work authorization.
- Fluency in English and Arabic (spoken and written).
- Possesses a friendly attitude with strong interpersonal skills to work with people of different backgrounds as well as interacting with people of all faiths.
- Ability to develop programs and teach courses to children, youth and adults of both genders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hafiz is a preferred
- Higher education such as Master or PhD is a plus
Typical Education & Experience
- Must have a bachelor or equivalent degree in Islamic Studies (mainly Fiqh, Tafseer, Hadeeth, Jurisprudence “Sharia’” & Law, Islamic Theology and Islamic Dawah) from accredited institution.
- Experience in public speech and giving Khutbah to a large audience in English & Arabic.
-The CMC is located near the downtown of the historical city of Charleston at 1082 King Street, Charleston, SC. The CMC community members are diverse with different national origins and cultures, in addition to students from the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Charleston and The Citadel
